Feeling thoughts of suicide does not mean that you are weak or crazy, but that you feel like things will not get better for you. It is important to understand that suicide should never be considered an option when things are not working out for you. By reaching out to someone and creating a safe environment, you will no longer feel like ending your life.
What Do I Need to Know If I Feel Suicidal?
Some of the most successful people who seem like they had it all have experienced the same thing as you have where they are under a lot of intense pain. Right now, you are just feeling overwhelmed with depression. You need to know that there are people out there who love and need you and that there are places out there where you can make a difference. Your emotions are always changing so something that may be so hard to take in today may be easier tomorrow. For as long as you are alive, there is always a chance to change your life and be happy.
What Should I Do About These Feelings Right Now?
You should make a promise to yourself right now that you will not try to end your life. Make a vow that you will not do anything drastic right now and to give your feelings a chance to change. Your suicidal thoughts do not need to be real. Be patient and put some distance between your feelings and any actions
How Can I Keep My Home Safe?
Remove anything in the house that you can use to hurt yourself like knives, razors, pills, ropes, or firearms. If you cannot get rid of these items in your house, go somewhere else where you will feel safe like a friend’s house until your feelings subside. If you feel like overdosing, give your pills to someone who will return them to you one pill at a time.
Who Can I Talk to About These Feelings?
You can speak to a family member, friend, therapist, teacher, family doctor, coach, or a telephone hotline. Speak to someone you trust and do not be afraid to be open with your feelings. This will be a great release from all of the pressure you have been building up. If you or anyone else you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK.
