One of the things that can make us feel sad and anxious is the feeling of being invisible. You feel like no matter what you do to seek attention, even out of character moments, you still feel like you are not being seen. By understanding why you feel invisible, you can take control of your anxiety and depression and discover your worth.

Anxiety or Depression

Your anxiety may be making you believe that you are invisible when people are actually able to see you fine. You may be taking it too personally when someone does not text you back or are too busy. Your depression makes you think that no one sees you when it may be you that you do not see. Any of these thoughts you should consult with your therapist about. If people are avoiding you, it could be that people know about your anxiety or depression but do not know what to say to you. The stigma of mental illness can leave you feeling shame. By seeing a therapist, you can finally see yourself and notice that others are able to see you too.

Unchangeable Traits

You may also be feeling invisible because of traits about you that you cannot change. It could be that your gender, race, or age is what makes people not take notice of you or let you have a voice. This can make you feel like you have no place in anything. This is a very difficult place to come out as these are traits about yourself that you cannot change even if you wanted to. It is important to try to find your voice using different outlets. If you feel like something is happening in your area that you would like to change, create a petition online. You can also express yourself through videos, art, music, social media, etc. Everyone has a voice and no one should stop it being heard.

Shyness

Being shy has a way of making you feel like running away from crowds. You feel invisible, but you are not trying to make yourself stand out either. Shyness is not something that can be turned on and off. By speaking to your therapist about your shyness, you can learn how to feel confident around others. Invisibility is not a real trait to have. Confidence and seeing yourself will help others see you and expand your social circle.
