It has been known that people in the entertainment industry tend to drink or do drugs. That even if they are sober, there is always a chance of relapse once they go back on tour and are surrounded by others abusing substances. The entertainment industry has a responsibility to ensure that it is doing their job to prevent more drug overdoses occurring.

Drugs and the Entertainment Industry

It seems to be a habit in the entertainment industry to be involved with drugs and alcohol. You may feel like since all of these parties have drugs and alcohol, you need to fit in and partake as well. Unfortunately, a lot of these talented stars end up dying from substance abuse like Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, etc. Or there are people in the industry who take their own lives because of their depression like Kurt Cobain. Substance abuse and mental health issues need to be addressed.

MusiCares

MusiCares was established in 1989 that provides social and financial services to professionals in the music industry. They offer different types of free recovery support groups in Los Angeles, Nashville, Austin, New Orleans, New York, Seattle, and Fort Collins. Clients will be able to discuss the challenges of staying clean and sober in the industry. There is also the MusiCares Monthly Sober Jam where musicians can play their music in a safe, sober environment. There are also Safe Harbor Rooms that include 12-step meetings.

The Actors Fund

The Actors Fund was created in 1882 with offices in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. This foundation will help you enter into a recovery process where you will learn effective coping strategies and take responsibility for managing your life without substance abuse. Social workers can meet with those in the entertainment industry. The Actors Fund can also organize interventions, make treatment referrals, and provide financial assistance for the cost of treatment. Information will not be released without permission and a written consent.

SIMS Fund

The SIMS Fund was founded in 1995. It was created in memory of Sims Ellison who killed himself the same year the foundation was founded. This foundation offers counselling to individuals, families, bands, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs in Austin. There is also grief counseling and provides assistance to musicians who are on tour. Bringing helpful resources to the entertainment industry can help lead them on the path to recovery.
