Suicidal deaths are continuing to rise up. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 47,000 people died by suicide in 2017. By supporting organizations that are constantly looking for more preventative methods to stop suicide rates from rising, you are breaking the stigma of suicide prevention and doing something about it.
What is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline?
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides free and confidential support for anyone in need of crisis prevention or looking to help a loved one. The organization is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with 150 local centers around the country. This organization also relies on volunteers to support callers who are in great need of help. This lifeline also encourages people to donate to their local center which can be made directly to the Lifeline program. You can call their number through 1-800-273-8255.
What is the Crisis Text Line?
The Crisis Text Line connects people who need help with real-life counselors with no charge. All of this is through texting where you can text 741741 when you feel like you are in a crisis and receive a quick response from a trained counselor. They will try to understand the texter’s problem, collaborate to problem solve, and make a plan to ensure the texter is safe. You can support the organization by becoming a volunteer crisis counselor or making a one-time donation of $19. The Line can also teach you how to launch a fundraiser through GoFundMe to help rally friends and family to the cause.
What is the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention?
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has been around for over 30 years to support survivors of suicide loss, raise awareness and educate the public on suicide prevention.
